CONSTRUCTION
Failure Control undertakes investigations of failed steel structures, temporary works and failed construction equipment.
As an example, we undertook a major investigation into the collapse of temporary works erected during construction of the multi-story car park at a major international airport. Our scope of work included the review of design calculations, examination of fractured items to determine the failure mechanism and devising and managing a test programme to characterise the strength of key components that had initiated the collapse. During the construction of the Channel Tunnel we advised investors on proposals to modify the tunnel boring machine to improve its reliability and safety in handling pre-cast lining segments. We also investigate failures in cranes and associated lifting equipment, mobile construction equipment (loaders, excavators etc) and in pile driving equipment. We are familiar with many of the statutory requirements relating to construction and lifting equipment. |
